Technologies for Ministry: Blogs

Technologies for Ministry: Blogs
This post is part of the series 25 Technologies for Ministry»

Description: Some may characterize blogs as ‘old school’ with the emergence of microblogging, but they still have their place in web 2.0.  Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Two years ago, the pastoral staff launched a blog platform to broaden our staff’s engagement with our church family.

Ministry Application: Blogs on second.org are used for spiritual formation by providing ministry resources, Biblical perspectives, encouragement, leadership development and/or ministry best practices. We have often used them for specific types of events as well (read more), and with overwhelming success I might add. To help our staff get started, we provided them with some guidelines and best practices (a nicer way of saying a church blog policy).

A great resource on ministry blogs is a book by Brian Bailey called The Blogging Church. Brian provides a wealth of insights on how blogs can enhance the ministry of the church.
